KEY WEST CRUISE CANCELLED….
7 BOATS SPEND WEEKEND IN SOUTH SEAS INSTEAD
After our cruise captain, Ginny Rapp, spent many, many days (and nights) planning a week long cruise to Key West filled with exciting planned activities and dining, once again bad weather and rough seas played havoc with her best laid plans….and the trip was cancelled.
Many of the boats, however, were all packed, fueled and raring to go….so when the weather and seas going north finally improved dramatically several days after the originally planned date and promised sunshine for the entire weekend, 6 boats took off for some fun at South Seas Resort in Captiva. The Cooks (Cookin), Gelfands (My Turn), and Mulligans (Too Many Wakes) stopped along the way for a delicious lunch at Rum Runners while the Mounts (Nauti Buoy) and Browns (Therapy III) opted for lunch at South Seas. Later in the afternoon the Herndons (Tennessee Waltz) arrived. They had been cruising with friends for about a week and planned on meeting the group back in Marco to travel to Key West. Calls from Brent and Ginny kept them hanging out up north to see what the rest of the group would do. Everyone arrived in time for a beautiful night and dinner at RC Otters.
Late morning on Saturday as some of us took our constitutional walk around the golf course and out by the Gulf, we viewed the arrival of the Sachers (Sachmo).
Saturday afternoon the ladies had a fun time playing Mexican Train Dominoes out on the dock while the men took the dinghies for a cruise. Dinner consisted of heavy hors d’oeuvres on the dock with a great selection and way too much food as always. Entertainment for the evening consisted of watching our 3 canine friends, Maggie Mae (Herndon), Teddy (Cook), and Shmulie (Sacher) chase each other around.
Sunday morning most of us, hungry again, opted for the wonderful brunch buffet at the restaurant right there on South Seas dock. Then some of the ladies decided to walk it off and made it all the way to the shopping area at the gate of the resort. After some shopping and a refreshing iced Starbucks drink, it was back to the Marina (on the trolley).
Everyone had enjoyed their Saturday afternoon so much that we repeated it on Sunday afternoon with more Mexican Train and cruising in the dinghies. Dinner Sunday night was at Old Captiva Inn. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the piano entertainment was relaxing and wonderful. Old Captiva Inn sent a van to South Seas gate to pick us up. It took 2 trips each way to transport 14 of us…..ladies first on the way there….gentlemen first on the way back…..with Barry and Bob in the way, way back. Even Judy didn’t fit! (see pictures).
All seven boats made the trip back to Marco on Monday with calm seas and beautiful sunshine….and only a couple of minor engine problems.
