Fleet Captain's Auction 2009

On Saturday, January 17th, a group of 71 members and guests participated in the Annual Fleet Captain’s Auction at the Old Marco Lodge and Crab House.  Everyone enjoyed lunch together before our resident Auctioneer, Bill Hamlin, kicked off our Auction with the assistance of Past Commodore Dave Brandt.  Club members donated a number of great items along with some of the usual junk.  We had a record number of merchants donate items this year including A-1 Fuel, Cedar Bay Marina, Hoot’ Restaurant, J&J Boat Detailing, Marco River Marina, Old Marco Lodge, Sea Tow, Sunshine Ace Hardware, Walker’s Marine and West Marine.  A big thank you to each of these merchants.  I’d also like to thank Karlene Hamlin and D’Ann Brandt for getting the bidding started on almost every item.  We’d still be there without their help.

This year’s overall “Big-Spenders” were once again Bob and Gale Kuhn.  We’d like to thank the Kuhns and everyone else for making this another great auction.  Your generosity allowed the Club to award our members five $50 cash prizes and donate $350 each to Standing Watch, The Marco Island Civil Air Patrol, The Power Squadron and the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.  This was a great event and I hope that you will plan to join the Club for many more great activities throughout the remainder of the season.
