Pelican Isle Yacht Club Cruise 2009
(by John Putnam)

Cruising in the month of May is truly wonderful. On this short trip we had perfect weather and extremely calm seas for the nine boats that made the trip. We probably would have had more, but many have left for the northland by this time of year. As it is, we enjoyed the boating company of Gelfands, Orsolinis, Brandts, Risings, Cooks, Odenbachs, Dowlings, Herrins, Putnams, and Ferrys. Anzalones, Vromans, Ostows, Hortons and Barters joined by car for the Saturday night happenings.

On Friday night we all crammed aboard "My Ruthie" for cocktails and heavy hors devours after a long afternoon of hanging around the pool and burning ourselves up in the summer sun. A few made it over to the beach aboard the shuttle.

On Saturday, Risings took a large crew aboard "Denice's Hope" and ran up to Rum Runners in Cape Coral for lunch. They had a terrific cruise as the seas remained like glass for our entire stay. The rest of us took naps and read by the pool (that would be Al & me).

PIYC set up a happy hour for us prior to our sit down dinner on Saturday evening. We had 34 attendees. Everyone remarked as to how great the food and service was. "Shelly & Kelly" performed a ton of special requests after dinner (we took their card for future events) and our crowd drank and danced to them for into the late hours (after nine).

PIYC is a favorite spot for our club members and I expect that we will return again next year.

(As a matter of fact, the weather was so good that most of the boats decided to stay out one more day and proceeded to Naples City Dock on Sunday rather than return to Marco.)
