PRESENTATION OF THE FLEET
On January 31st a group of hardy boaters met on Smokehouse Bay for the Presentation of the Fleet. The day could only be described by Floridians as “Blustery and Frigid” There were small craft advisories in effect and low tide, but still our Bridge and Past Commodores were there in their uniforms saluting as bundled up Captains, first mates and guests paid their respects to our Country, U.S. Flag, deceased members, and new Officers, in that order. The MBYC Historian, P/C Larry Oswald read the club’s history as is tradition. Jim Thomas captained the Oleanna for the Bridge and PC Dave Brandt captained the Double “D” for the past commodores. There were 7 boats with their guests, which was a good turnout with the weather conditions, along with many watching from the Esplanade. In total, 84 members enjoyed a delightful luncheon at CJ’s on the Bay. Chaplain Alan Sandlin asked a blessing after we began to warm up inside the restaurant followed by the lively group of boaters enjoying the wonderful view, excellent food and fellowship from the warmth of CJ’s and our friendships. A big “THANK YOU” to all who attended. |
