COMMODORE’S MESSAGE
We had a great month, first with the cookout and on the hook at Panther Key on the 2nd. I want to thank Bob Vroman for all his hard work. Unfortunately, Ginny was home sick with pneumonia. It was a very good turnout with around 30 members and guests.
On the 10th the Wild Goose Chase was canceled due to lack of participation, maybe because it was so close to Easter! There were just three boats signed up. The Dogget team put a lot of effort into the “chase,” but Joe said that everything is all set for next season.
The weekend of the 16th to 18th was Port of the Isles trip. I want to thank Joe and Sharon Doggett for sponsoring this; it was another great group, with people coming by boat and auto. We had a great lunch thanks to everybody. For those that couldn’t make, it you missed a good time.
I wasn’t able to make Monday Madness on the 26th as Cea had her shoulder surgery that day. But after talking to a few members, I could see that it was another good time with around 35 members attending. I want to thank Brent Cook for filling in for me. Next month we will be meeting at CJ’s on the Bay for our Monday Madness; the time is the same as always on the last Monday. They said that they would be happy to see us. We’ll continue there until October.
This month the only trip that is planned is the weekend of the 14th to 16th to the Naples Bay Resort. When I last heard from John Putman, there were only four boats going. It’s really a nice spot for a weekend. Look for the flyer on the website and in the Baylines. Check it out.
For our summer dine-around Sue Anzalone is planning June, Ginny Vroman July, Carolyn Edgar August, and D’Ann Brandt September. (I haven’t reached D’Ann yet. They are out of town taking care of Dave’s sister’s estate.) I want to thank the “Girls” for doing this for the club in the summer. The dinners make a nice evening and are really reasonable this time of the year.
At our Board meeting last month the board voted to buy a good first aid kit and a defibrillator for the club to take on cruises. The fleet captain will be in control of it. Ginny Rapp on her own time has completed a certified Red Cross course in AED/CPR as an instructor and will be giving classes to members in the fall for anyone who would like to get certified. It was Ginny’s idea to get the defibrillator and first aid kit for the club. Great job, Ginny. Thank you very much.
For all of our members who are heading out for the summer if I don’t see you, have a safe trip and a good summer. We will look forward to seeing you in the fall.
Your Commodore, Bill Horton
