It is my honor to be Commodore of Marco Bay Yacht Club for the year of Page Title

2009.  The past years have seen many changes in our club, all of which can be said to have advanced our charge as a boating club.

This year MBYC can continue to expand our means of boating companionship by having daytime raft-ups and day trips to such places as the Naples Yacht Club, etc.  The influence of fuel costs could cause serious obstacles to the longer cruises, but I am sure that this area under a new Fleet Captain will remain active and strong with new areas for cruising.

Boat safety will be the theme for this year.  A new Safety Committee will be activated, and an effort to get every boat in MBYC safety inspected this year is a must. We are a boating club, and we must be a leader in boat safety.

Social events, as every year, will continue to be a highlight, and with Final Friday and other events having had such success, members of the club have a great means of meeting and getting to know those in the club. I have been impressed in the manner in which new and old members have rallied to improve and promote this club.  A great way of socializing will be the cruise to Alaska in late May for the club members and guests.

As always, we must find new members to keep our club strong.  Your obligation as a sponsor does not end with signing the new member application.  It involves helping the new members to get their boats safety inspected, which is a requirement for membership.  You also are encouraged to bring them to club functions where they can be introduced and made to feel a part of this great club.

I know that MBYC will have a great year by you, as members of this club, being active and working to make us greater. I appreciate those who have stepped forward in leadership roles, and I assure you that all of you members can help our club improve.  Please become involved; I promise it will make MBYC a much more interesting and great club.

Sincerely,

Joe Doggett

Commodore
