COMMODORE’S MESSAGE MARCH, 2009

 

My first month as your Commodore certainly has been a busy and rewarding time.  The Commodore’s Ball was held at Hideaway Beach on January 24, 2009 and was attended by 118 club members.  It appeared all had a wonderful time with great facilities, food, companionship, and great entertainment by Dan Voss.  My thanks to chairwomen Linda Odenbach and Betty Barter for such a great occasion.  At the ball, the Civil Air Patrol, Power Squadron, Coast Guard Auxiliary, and Standing Watch were each presented with a donation of $350 which was part of the earnings from the Fleet Captain’s Auction.  My thanks to Brent Cook who put this function together and to Bill Hamlin who again did a fantastic job as auctioneer.

 

January 31, 2009 saw 84 gather at C.J.s on the Bay for our annual Presentation of the Fleet.  In spite of high winds and cool temperatures, the ceremony was honored by seven boats passing in review, with more giving regrets due to weather.  My thanks to Jim Thomas, who supplied the  “Oleanna” for the Bridge Boat, and to Dave Brandt for use of the “ Double D” as the Past Commodores’ Boat.

 

Two members have graciously accepted positions within the club, Alan Sandlin as Chaplain and Dan Lowell as photographer.  Thank you to Linda Odenbach who has stepped down as Social cochair.  Sue Anzalone will take her position along with Betty Barter.  Gerry Odenbach will  take over as Secretary.

 

The Festival of Lights cruise, play, and parade festivities was a great success under the able leadership of Dave Besuden and Joe Anzalone.  Nine boats stayed at the Legacy along with 38 attending the dinner  theatre play of

All Shook Up, and 27 enjoying the parade. Thanks for a job well done to Dave and Joe.
